Manx Lottery Trust visit to Peel Centenary Centre

30th May 2018

Last night we welcomed Nicolle Plumley of the Manx Lottery Trust to witness our new PA in action when Dan Hadfield (aka Gary Barlow) came to Peel to wow the capacity crowd.

The Manx Lottery Trust were one of the key benefactors to allow us to purchase our superb new PA system, for which we are all very grateful and appreciative.

Are you GDPR compliant?

13th June 2018

Today I attended a very informative training day at the Palace Hotel delivered by Estelle Dehon Barrister at Cornerstone Barristers on the scope of the General Data Protection Regulation which came into force on the 25th May 2016 and recently entered into application on the 25th May this year and as a result becoming directly applicable in the law of every EU Member State, including the UK.  GDPR is applied to the Isle of Man through the 2018 implementing regulations which will give effect to new Data Protection legislation for the Island.

What's the point of marriage?

8th June 2018

What's the point of marriage?

"Marriage challenges you to deal with sickness, tragedy, financial stresses, changes in faith or beliefs, job loss, weight gain, raising kids, losing parents and other family members, and you have to do it all while supporting and satisfying another emotional human being!"

An interesting read! With unreasonable

behaviour being sited as the most common ground for divorce and an estimated 42% of UK marriages ending in divorce with around half of these expected to occur in the first 10 years of marriage should married couples realistically be in pursuit of happiness and perpetual bliss or rather as the article suggests is the point of marriage growth?

Therapist says divorce could mean marriage was a success!

16th June 2018

"Marriage is perfectly designed to help you grow up. It challenges your blind spots. Marriage will expose your selfishness. It'll expose your immaturity. And that's a good thing. It will continually ask you to grow in ways you couldn't have anticipated."

MLT visit to local homeless charity Graih now in its 10th year!

14th June 2018

This evening I attended the AGM for local homeless charity Graih. For those of you that are unfamiliar with the charity it provides support to homeless and vunerable people on the Island 'a home for the homeless', at the heart of which is a drop-in centre providing food, shelter and unconditional support to those who need it. On January 3rd this year Graih celebrated 10 years as a charity although it had already been operating less formally prior to this. During its time as a charity Graih has provided over 34400 meals and more than a 1000 emergency overnight stays, it still however remains a little known safe haven for those of us fortunate enough not to depend on its services and many who continue to believe that our prosperous and beautiful Island does not have a homeless issue! Despite the continued hard work of its members there is still a real need for Graih's services with the added demands of an increasing homeless population suffering from mental health issues. The charity remains reliant on it's volunteers and donations to keep open, often operating from hand to mouth on a shoestring budget, a third of which goes to provide deposits to landlords in the private sector for accommodation. This is an area which is largely unregulated and often abused, there is no Landlord register on the Island and the accommodation provided is more often than not less than sub-standard.
